Who Owns That Action Item? AI Meeting Summarizer
AgentLeverage Team
2/23/2026
After the call, the action items are clear and the owners are not.
Writing the recap from memory is the usual path. An AI meeting summarizer can recap notes or a transcript into decisions and owners. Whether a bot joins the call still varies.
Paste notes or a transcript first. You still review owners and decisions. Here's the side-by-side.
What Makes a Good AI Meeting Summarizer?
What "good" means for a small business:
- Action items — Capture decisions, owners, and deadlines when they were said, not just filler
- Speaker attribution — Knowing who said what matters more than a transcript wall of text
- Privacy — Your business conversations shouldn't be used to train AI models
- Fit — A monthly bot seat is the wrong shape if you only recap a handful of calls
The Approaches: Upload vs. Real-Time
Most tools fall into two categories:
Real-Time Tools (Join Your Call)
Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai, and similar tools join your Zoom/Teams call as a bot and transcribe live. These are convenient but come with trade-offs:
- Participants see a "bot joined" notification — awkward for sensitive calls
- You're dependent on their integrations staying up to date
- A monthly bot seat regardless of how many calls you actually recap
Upload-Based Tools
You start from notes or a transcript after the call. This is quieter and pay-per-use. If you only have a recording, you still need a labeled transcript first.
For most small businesses, an upload-based AI meeting summarizer is the better fit. AgentLeverage's Meeting Summarizer does not join Zoom, Meet, or Teams.
How Our Meeting Summarizer Works
AgentLeverage's Meeting Summarizer accepts pasted notes or an uploaded transcript (TXT, DOCX, VTT, SRT) and returns:
- Recap of what was covered
- Decisions, when they were said
- Action items with an owner and a deadline when those were mentioned
- Key takeaways worth keeping
Speaker labels already in the transcript stay in the recap. Meeting Summarizer does not transcribe audio and does not invent names. If you have a recording, run Speaker Separation first, then hand the labeled transcript to the summarizer. You still rename Speaker 1 and review overlaps. This is not a certified legal record.
Here's an example of the output shape, not a real customer call:
MEETING SUMMARY

Participants: Sarah (PM), Marcus (Eng), Diana (Design)
DECISIONS:
• Ship v2.1 by April 15 (Marcus to own)

ACTION ITEMS:

• Diana: Send mockups for homepage refresh by March 31
• Sarah: Write up user research findings, share by Wednesday
KEY TOPICS:
• Q1 roadmap review — 3 of 7 features shipped
• Discussed hiring timeline: 2 engineers in Q2
• Customer feedback themes: performance and mobile UX
Signed-in runs cost 2 credits per summary. Guest runs are free (5/day).
Step-by-Step: Summarize Your First Meeting
1. Start from notes or a transcript
If you already have notes, skip ahead. If you recorded Zoom, Meet, or Teams, export the built-in transcript when you can. If you only have audio, run Speaker Separation first. Guest runs there are free (2/day). You still rename Speaker 1.
2. Paste or upload the transcript
Go to /tools/meeting-summarizer and paste notes or upload a transcript. Supported formats: TXT, DOCX, VTT, SRT. Optional fields: meeting date and participants.
3. Review and export
You get a recap, decisions, and action items. Copy it, or download as text. You still check names, owners, and dates before you share.
Tips for Better Summaries
-
Use speaker separation first — If you have a recording with multiple speakers, run it through the Speaker Separation tool first. The meeting summarizer uses those labels to attribute action items. You still rename Speaker 1.
-
Paste the useful parts — For a long call, paste the sections you care about rather than the whole transcript.
-
Mention names explicitly — When speakers say each other's names during the call, owners are easier to attribute. You still review them.
-
Add date and participants — Optional fields on the tool page help the recap name people and the date when they were said.

Unused included credits do not carry forward. Paid checkout charges immediately. There is no 7-day trial. Speaker Separation is billed separately: 2 credits per minute, rounded up, with a 1-minute floor.
Common Questions
Does it work with non-English meetings? Paste notes or a transcript in whatever language you have. We do not publish multilingual accuracy numbers. You still review the recap.
Can I use it for internal all-hands? Yes, if you have notes or a transcript. Meeting Summarizer does not take a raw recording. If you only have audio, label speakers first. You still review before you share. This is not a certified record.
What happens to my files? We do not train models on your data. Signed-in jobs stay until you delete them. Guest results expire after 7 days.
Is this a Zoom bot or a certified transcript? No. It does not join the call. It is a working recap. You still review.
